We have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?

What does it mean when the ABS light comes on in our car?We have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?ANTILOCK Braking System malfunction, your brakes default to normal mode you do not have the antilock feature. Get it checked out.We have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?
ABS stands fro Automatic Braking System. It means something is wrong with the brakes. Get it to a mechanic ASAP. If your brakes go out you and everyone on the road are at risk !!We have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?ABS Automatic Braking System.

This is an electronic breaking system, that pulses your brakes hydraulically, so that you can maintain control of your car, even if you slam on the breaks. Prevents a straight skid, by pulsing the breaks, allowing steering avoiding a skid.

It also reduces your stopping distance, by avoiding skids.

You can slow down faster, if your wheel does not lock into a skid.

If the electronic ABS module stops working, your brakes will still work. ( check your brake fluid levels though).

The light comes on, because a diagnostic test failed when the car was first started. There is an electronic module that controls the break pulsing. It monitors break fluid pressure, and response from wheel rotation sensors, and reports results to your vehicle computer. The computer monitors the electronic control module, detected a fault, and lit the light on your dash board.

This could be that the electronic module has failed, or detected an unusual signal from one of the pressure or rotation sensors.

You can still drive your car without the ABS system working.

But if you panic break, you will skid in a straight line, and not have steering control, as you would if your brakes were pulsed.

The sensor signal may correct itself, and go away. Could be caused by moisture in the hydraulic lines, or due to dis-use.

Check the break fluid reservoir, and make sure it is at the proper level. Drive the car on a few short trips, shutting the car off after each trip. Be sure to pump the brakes a bit. The light will probably go out.

If not, you need to get it checked. The car will fail inspection, as this is a piece of required safety equipment. We have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?
It means there is a problem with the abs and they will likely not work the way they should

Don't worry you wont lose your braking just the abs won't functionWe have a Buick. What does it mean when the ABS light comes on?The computer that controls ABS turns that light on. Probably, it means one of the wheels sensors is not responding properly, and ABS has been shut down.

It's not really a big deal for driving, but you probably don't have ABS while it's on.
