How much will it cost to register and get a plate for my 92' buick le sabre? I live in Edmonton, AB.

Contrary to the answers given before mine, The Cost of the vehicle does NOT play a role in getting the vehicle registered. And within Canada, Individuals are NOT taxed on inheritance or non-monetary gifts so there would be no sales tax.

Now for the actual answer:

There are a few things that you'll be required to do in order to get the vehicle registered in the province of Alberta.

First, Any active vehicle intended to be used requires at the very minimum, Third-Party Liability Insurance,. You'll need to obtain this before you can register your vehicle.

Secondly, because of the age both Alberta Registries and your insurance company are going to want a Safety inspection done. If the vehicle was previously registered in a different Province, country or state then an Out of Province inspection is required as well.

Once you've done this you can go and get your vehicle registered at a licensed Alberta Registry Agent (check Yellow pages for listings)

Registration is done annually, at a cost of about $70. Renewals are based on the First letter of your last name. Therefore if your name starts with an "S" (Say your name was Sanderson) then you technically could purchase a registration for $12 which would cover you until the last day of October 2008.

Plates are provided during the initial registration and are not charged any costs. How much will it cost to register and get a plate for my 92' buick le sabre?
