I have changed the water pump, thermostat, and the fans are working. I make sure there is coolant in the car and my radiator has water. I'm not sure what is making it run so hot. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.I have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?Try the cheapest, and most overlooked first, the radiator cap, theey do wear our where they wil not hold the proper pressure.
If after installing a new cap it still overheats, have the vacuum checked, a low steady reading would indicate a leaking intake manifold, another possible cause of overheating as the vehicle is running too lean.
Another, but not likely item to check is the temperature sending unit, it just might be giving the wrong reading.I have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?
check your head gaskets. they could be blown. also make sure the intake manifold gaskets arent leaking. you can do this by checking your radiator cap and oil cap for intermix, (oil and rad coolant maixing together) this will look like brown sludge on your caps and filler necks.I have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?Also check your thermostat and make sure it is not frozen shut. To test take off feed in neck and hose and remove the thermostat and boil water and drop it in if it opens its good if it dosent open it is bad. Either way rplace it and that should help you out. Good luckI have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?
Several good suggestions have been made here, but have you checked the sending unit?
The sending unit the computer sees isn't the same one that runs your temp gauge. If it's bad, the computer won't be turning the fan on at the proper time.I have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?Make sure that there isn't some kind of bleeder screw that you have to use to get air out of the cooling system.
My wife had a chrysler LHS that would overheat if you didn't do this.I have a 1998 Buick Century that is constantly overheating.?
Two things i would check first. 1. when you changed the water pump did you "burp" the system so it would not get an air lock - when the engine is cold - take off the radiator cap - turn you heater on - and as it warms up there should be air bubbles - keep filling with anti freeze until full. 2. did you change your radiator cap - it may be weak or frozen - good luck
Your radiator could be plugged and not circulating the water
