If I swap in a small block Chevy into a 1985 Buick Regal will I be able to pass smog in CA?

Or will I need all the smog equipment for the SBC?If I swap in a small block Chevy into a 1985 Buick Regal will I be able to pass smog in CA?what year is the small block chevy??

I believe I once heard/read that swaps are smog legal as long as the engine youare putting in is the same year or "NEWER"..you cannot put in an older engine..... I'm not sure but I suspect that "Smog testing equipment" is looking for certain parameters on an engine...and if they don't come close to the year engine you have in the car...you may have problems passing!!

"Will you need the smog equipment??...........Your 1985 Buick has smog equipment to pass the test......So Yes..You need"ALL THE SMOG EQUIPMENT FOR A 1985 buick......

What should I do after flooding the engine in my 2000 Buick Regal?

It's -41C. The car is parked on a residential street and not plugged in. I attempted to start the 3800 V6 approx. 10 times, turning the key back to the "off" position after each try, something I learned only afterwards should not be done, since more fuel gets shot into the engine every time the ignition switches from "off" to "run".

Approx. 10 hrs. later I tried again while holding the accelerator pedal down- this time it almost went, and it backfired from the excess fuel.

Someone told me that once an engine is flooded, there is nothing you can do except have all the sparkplugs removed which allows the excess fuel to escape through these holes. Is this my ONLY option here? Five days have passed since I last tried to start it. Should I try starting it again where it is, have it towed to where I can plug it in first, or have it towed to a service outlet because the plugs have to be removed, which might prove to be costly in labour. Or would it? Are these my only options here? What should I do after flooding the engine in my 2000 Buick Regal?Nearly ALL manufacturers use a computer-controlled strategy for injecting fuel.

If you turn the key off then on, it does NOT add fuel. Fuel is delivered only by engine rotation. The only thing that energizes when the key is turned on and off is the computer and the fuel pump relay. Period.

If the engine is truly flooded, the strategy for "clear flood condition" written into the computer is to open the throttle all the way (%26gt; 90%) then crank the engine. The computer sees the wide-open throttle position and understands that the engine is not running, and the command then is to turn off the injectors until it sees the throttle return to %26lt; 70% position. This allows the engine to rotate and expell the fuel without adding to the condition.

The chances are that what has happened is that the battery is too cold to crank the engine at great enough speed to successfully ignite the fuel charge.

You may want to get the car to a location where you can plug in the heater.

Happy MotoringWhat should I do after flooding the engine in my 2000 Buick Regal? If it's flooded then it should be fine after a length of time sitting. Try it again, if it doesn't start flooding is not your problem. Holding the pedal to the floor and cranking usually will over come flooding and it will start and clear up.What should I do after flooding the engine in my 2000 Buick Regal?Oh the woe of slow cranking fuel injected engines.

Even when the engine is cranking ever so slow you can bet your house that them injectors are just a squirting away.

Once that carbon track is established on a spark plug it is permanent.

Give it a small sniff of either next time on a fully charged battery.

Even either will fire off of a carbon track or slightly fouled plug, and hopefully dry them out for the time being.

If you live in a region of -41 I would consider a bad AZ Optima spiral cell battery, or have an either injector installed on the engine.

  • Could a Throttle position sensor go bad twice in a 93 Buick Lesabre?

My car would idle really high as if the petal was down to the floor, so i took it to be repaired and the throttle position sensor was replaced. It work very well and I drove it weeks later. One day I left my car in the yard for a month, and the battery was dead, but when I got a jump it the idling very high all over again, so could the sensor have gone bad again. Any ideas THANKS.Could a Throttle position sensor go bad twice in a 93 Buick Lesabre?Did you forget to ask for the old part?Could a Throttle position sensor go bad twice in a 93 Buick Lesabre?I doubt it.

Why does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?

The service engine soon light has gone on and off a few times in the past month. I have noticed that typically it will go on on warmer days when I am driving around a city (low speeds) or idling for extended periods of time in warmer weather. Then it will usually go off about an hour later. Ideas? Thanks! Why does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?You have a fault in one or more of the systems the computer is monitoring which causes a feedback outside the parameters it expects to see, triggering the check engine light. Even when the light goes off, the chances are the fault has been stored in memory. What error codes does the scan give you? Post them in your question, and I can give you more information as to the system and possible fix.Why does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?
I wish I knew. My 95 Chevy truck does the same thing. I have tried scanning it for computer errors, but OBD-I is not as friendly as ODB-II in newer carsWhy does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?It could be a Faluty sensor. Take it to someone like autozone and have them run a check on the light, its free. Why does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?
Maybe it needs servicing, usually that's what the light means, have it checked out by a mechanicWhy does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?Probably, a difference between the oxygen sensor, before the catalytic converter, and the one after. an intermittant connection on one or the other, would be my guess. Why does the Service Engine Soon light on my late-90s Buick Century keep going on and off?
When it flashes count the flashes and you will have the coda , However for everything you need to have it scanned with a star tester

How do I install new windshield wipers on my '99 Buick Park Avenue?

I've gone through the instruction manual, and for some reason...the wiper wont come off of the hook and the booklet said I had to find a tab to release it. I have no clue what to do.How do I install new windshield wipers on my '99 Buick Park Avenue? The tab is under the center of the wiper where it meets the arm. You push the tab in toward the wiper arm and pull the wiper blade firmly toward the windshield. If it is that much hassle most parts places will help you install them for free regardless of where you purchased the blades. Good luck.

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, check engine came on mechanic says its the temperature control sensor-?

What is that and is it expensive ?I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, check engine came on mechanic says its the temperature control sensor-?You know you really should have asked the mechanic. I've never really heard of a temperature control sensor except for those luxury cars with automatic climate control. They sense the temp in the cabin and maintain it at a preset temp. You can't mean that can you? I don't think that would light up the check engine. If he meant "temperature sensor" then there are two, one for the computer and one for the gauge. The one for the computer will adversely affect your vehicle's running but is cheap and easy to replace. The other doesn't matter.I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, check engine came on mechanic says its the temperature control sensor-?Engine coolant temp sensor or air inlet temp - neither of these should be relatively expensive and most are readily accessible and easily replaced.

I have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?

every time it gets warmed up , it stalls at every light or every corner if i slow down enough....although it starts usually right away again.any ideas?I have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?I think the main problem here is the idle is to low,I would suggest getting a manual such as Haynes or Mitchell, this will guide you through the steps for adjusting the idle speed. It would be helpful to know if it is fuel injected or feed back carburated,or throttle body.If it's throttle body or fuel injected you would be advised to take to a shop to have the on board computer scanned for failure codes, and get those repaired first. One possibility would be engine coolant temp sensor, but get it scanned first that way your not guessing.I have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?
check fuel pressureI have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?Clogged Catalytic converter, bad Torque Converter Clutch solenoid, EGR valve stuck, TPS switch, intake air temp sensor, coolant sensor, MAP/ MAS, alternator.... best to take it to a shop and have it scanned for codes.I have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?
well you probably need a tune up.if i was you id take it to someone to look at it for you . now if your serviece light is on go to auto zone and they can tell you whats wrong with it and they wont charge you anything. oh by the why dont not take off you thermostat of .because if you do youll willlllll blow the engine up you doooooooooooo need it. but if i was you id still go to aute zone an ask them what mit be wrong .because your a women they help you for free,.........good luck.............lonewolfI have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?I'm pretty good at this believe it or not! Check all your hoses. Get them off the engine. use something that will pull them off the engine. Also get some carb cleaner! you can leave the air filter off, not for long! Also it could be your thermostat. Take it off you really don't need it. because it's an older car.I have a 1986 Buick Century and it stalls when warmed up?
these are good answers but change/check your fuel filter, it can cause fuel pressure problems, by the tiem you reach to restart the engine the pump will have caught up. also check your plug wires, make sure they arnt corroded, and if you havent changed them in a while it migh tbe agood idea. also check the carb over.
