So why do American liberals despise GM Co.? Obama told me Buick was voted the most reliable car in the world?

GM's poor management, massive billion dollars losses and abysmal sales says it all. Even if Buick was reliable where has it been over the last 20 years? GM's problems didn't appear over night. They took many years of hard work and denial. About more than 20 years.

Someone doesn't have to be a "Liberal" to read a damn income statement. So why do American liberals despise GM Co.? Is there another car similar the Buick Regal Grand National?

I tried out the 1987 Buick Regal Grand National today and I was blown away! I absolutely love it. I love the fast 3.8L Turbocharged, inter-cooled engine. I was wondering if GM made anything else similar to the Grand National? Maybe they made a similar Chevy Monte Carlo or an Oldsmobile Cutlass?

Does anyone know? Thanks for your time.Is there another car similar the Buick Regal Grand National? The 1987 Buick Regal was a G platform. This was GM's midsize RWD car from 1982 to 88. In addition to the Regal, there was also the Chevrolet El Camino, Malibu, Monte Carlo, GMC Caballero, Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Bonneville, Grand Prix, and Grand LeMans. The performance editions were the Monte Carlo SS, Olds 442, and various other alterations of the Regal, among others. I'd say that the Monte Carlo SS would be the most similar to the GN in looks. A Regal T-Type had the 3.8L Turbo as well. The other cars had more powerful V8's. If you want more, type "GM G platform (RWD)" into Wikipedia. Is there another car similar the Buick Regal Grand National? They made a Type-T model Regal which is like a GN, but looks like a regular Regal(not all black). They are just as rare, if not rarer than the GN.

They also had the turbo 3.8 motor in the 1989 Trans Am Anniversary model. I get best results using a product found in Mercury boat stores, called "Power Tune". It has an unusual foaming action that roots out hidden carbon deposits, and restores function to these "gizmo's". While you are there, clean your throttle body and plate. Even better, remove the factory power wasting plugs, and install a set of Bosch Platinum, Fusion, or Nippondenso iridium plugs. You won't believe the difference!!!!How to lower idle on 92 Buick century station wagon limited 3.3 liter?Do not install the Nippondenso spark plugs. You will be fine, with either a set of Delco plugs, or, Champion plugs. You will do best, by staying away from the Nippondenso plugs, as well, as the NGK's. It is practly impossible to do any alterations to the idle system, on vehicles with fuel injection. All you can do, is replace the I.A.C. (Idle Air Control Valve). Or, the T.P.S (Throttle Poisition Sensor). One, or both of these, may be acting up.

Have the PCM scanned and see if there is a security code stored.I have 97 buick lesabre and sometimes when i try to start it it does nothing.then a security light comes on.?This is a VERY common thing that happens on GM vehicles. This is how it works. There is a Chip on your key shaft. (newer models have a transponder in the Key's plastic head) This Chip sends a signal that is read by the ignition/lock cylinder. The ignition then sends this signal down the line to the TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). The TDM then allows the starter to start. Seems like alot just to start your car, (it is) but this is how GM decided to do it. The point being that without everything communicating that signal, nobody will be able to "hotwire" and steal your car. The bad news is that this system tends to break and that every part of that system is expensive and is a "dealer" kind of fix. Get ready to pay up to a thousand bucks to FIX it. The good news is that if you want to BYPASS it, you can do this a lot cheaper. Check out this link for info, pictures, and some sites to help you in this matter. Ive been doing these bypasses for years, and if you bypass it permanantly, you will never have this problem again. You CAN fix this yourself. And will be alot cheaper than taking it in. You can contact me thru that link if you need any further help or have questions.

Is it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters?

I know cars are for transportation and not only appearance, but the look of those things just makes me angry! Is it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters?Never seen a buick that I liked, neverIs it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters?
I own a shop, and the only Buick that makes me angry is one that I have a hard time fixing. I could tell you what you want to hear by agreeing with you, but I can't do that. Most every Roadmaster I have ever seen, was a very fine car, and was a top of the line quality made car. They may not be eye candy, but for comfort, ride quality, safety, and performance, you can't beat this car. Many old people buy them because they feel safe in them, they are roomy, and will get out into the road if they have to do it quickly, so what's not to like about this car? If you were 80 years old, couldn't get in %26amp; out of a car, and wanted some protection around you that came with space enough for luggage, golf clubs, and all the crap you would buy for your grand-children, you would not even give any thought to how ugly the car was. You would just love the scenery, drive 30 mph in the left lane with your blinker on, and give the finger to all the young guns that honk at you. That is "IF" you can still hear well enough to hear the horns blasting at you. We will "all" be old one day, and will seek out a big ole Roadmaster that we can run the heater in the summer to ward off the cold with. Honestly; It's different strokes for different folkes, so don't be so quick to let the big ole Buicks make you angry, they are there for a reason too.

Glad to add my 2 cents worth!!!Is it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters? Most Roadmasters had a 260 hp LT1 engine (also found in the 92-96 Corvette) and they are rear wheel drive, what is there to hate about that? The LT1 is easy to modify. Is it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters?
they are great cars I want oneIs it me or do you also despise buick roadmasters? If the car runs from point A to point B and runs a U-turn you bet I like it. AS long as it runs and doesn't breakdown.

Is a 98 Buick century a nice depenable car with little or no maintence problems?

Yes it is. I had one and it just goes, goes, goes and goes just like those energized batteries! Is a 98 Buick century a nice depenable car with little or no maintence problems?this depends on how the car was treated. If it was well taken care of, it shouldn't give you too many problems. If the owner beat the crap out of it, you can expect many repairs. I would ask the owner if you can have your mechaic check the car over and let a 3rd party give you his advice on the car. This way your pretty much assured of what your getting in to.Is a 98 Buick century a nice depenable car with little or no maintence problems?
it can be a great car but 2 things to think about. 1 - who owned it before you and what kind of maintenance did they do and 2- if it is a 3.1 liter engine make sure the intake gasket was replaced and if so make sure it was replaced with the new metal/mesh gasket and not the plastic one that was on there before. If it is a 3800 then not much to worry about besides how often the oil was changed and what not. should have around 100-120k miles on it? Most things that need replacing probably have been already so I would so yes good car to get.Is a 98 Buick century a nice depenable car with little or no maintence problems?GOOD CAR one of the more dependable American models.

What is the normal temperature for a 1998 buick lasabre?

    had the thermostat and heat sending unit replaced due to lack of heat .Now heat works great ,but the temperatrure gauge shows a reading of 240 or 250 degrees when the car is in motion,took it back to mechanic,they checked everything and said this is normal,as long as the fan kicks on and cools it down,and it does that.Should I be concerned?What is the normal temperature for a 1998 buick lasabre?444;

Yes you should be concerned. Try another mechanic. All engines heat up to 212 degrees (the point where water boils), which is normal engine operating temperature. The maximum temperature of the best thermostat is 190 degrees, which is the point where it opens up to flow coolant through the cooling system from the radiator. Your temperature gauge should be reading between 180 and 190 degrees with the 190 rated thermostat. Since yours reads that the engine is over heating; then this means that the radiator coolant needs replaced; and the mechanic (if a real 1) should have known this. The complete cooling system has to be drained, completely flushed out and refilled with new coolant. The very best mixture of antifreeze to water is 1/3 to 2/3s.....that's 2/3s of antifreeze and 1/3 of water. Many non-mechanical people believe that a 50/50 mix is good; but it's not the best mix. Finally with the gauge reading so high; it sounds like maybe your coolant is almost all water. What is the normal temperature for a 1998 buick lasabre?190掳-195掳FWhat is the normal temperature for a 1998 buick lasabre? Most engines today are designed to operate within a ^normal" temperature range of about 195 to 220 degrees F. A relatively constant operating temperature is absolutely essential for proper emissions control, good fuel economy and performance.

Anytime temperatures climb beyond the normal range, the engine is running in the danger zone. Your gauge could be wrong. Get the actual temp taken to be sure.

Okay, maybe it would save you a lot more time and hassle if we started over. Take out your master cylinder and bench bleed it again per the video link below.

Reinstall and bleed the brakes per the other link below. This should get you going in the right direction.I changed the master cylinder on a 1994 buick century and lost the rear brakes?some cars have to be hooked up to the computer to bleed the absI changed the master cylinder on a 1994 buick century and lost the rear brakes?
you should know that it requires TWO people when bleeding the brakes. one to pump the pedal and then hold down on the pedal while the other person opens the bleeder to get the air out then close the bleeder while that other person is still holding the pedal down.

don't know how knowledgeable you are about doing this but you would do well to either read up on it or talk to someone who really knows how to do it. don't forget that every time you bleed a wheel you loosing fluid and so that means you have to constantly put fluid back into the master cylinder. most have two compartment, one for the front brakes the back for the back breaks. makes sense because if either one of those sets of brakes go bad the other half should still work. maybe the back half of the cylinder was empty when you tried to bleed the breaks. make sure you buy the correct fluid for the breaks.

How can I connect my iPod to a Buick 2006 Rendezvous?

My friend has a new (i think 2009) honda accord and he connected his iPod to his car via one cable. But he somehow just plugged it in with just 1 cable. Can I do so with just 1 cable? Or do I have to buy a big kit? Depending on your answer, where would I hook it up? ThanksHow can I connect my iPod to a Buick 2006 Rendezvous?Fairly simple to do.

    1) Your friend probably has one of the new systems with an input jack on the front. That of course is the easiest.

    2) If you have a Cassette tape deck in the car, use a "cassette adapter". It just plugs into the tape-deck like a cassette tape, and you plug it into the headphone jack of your iPod.

    3) If neither 1 or 2 apply, then you'll need an "FM adapter". Again, it plugs into your headphone jack on the iPod. It broadcasts your music on an unused FM channel, and you pick it up on your FM Radio. I'll add a small "gotcha" about this though. A) The Quality of the music you hear is partly dependent on the quality of the unit you buy. B) Depending on where you live, if there isn't a lot of blank space between stations, it can bleed over to your music.

I bought a $10.00 unit for my iPod, and I have to admit, it sounds like a 10.00 unit most of the time. My unit also uses the iPod battery to run it, so the battery runs down a bit faster. Other units might allow you to plug them in to the cigarette lighter to charge too. Look around.

How do I loosen and remove the accessory drive belt on a '93 Buick Park Avenue (3.8L)?

Gotta replace a water pump tonight - and it's getting dark fast! How do I loosen and remove the accessory drive belt on a '93 Buick Park Avenue (3.8L)?On some models, you have to loosen the power steering pump in order to get the belt off. Keep in mind you have to support the engine as a motor mount has to be removed before the water pump can be removed. I don't believe that is a supercharged model. This job should take the average tech about 2.5 hrs. By the book. We also need to know if it has an idler pulley--if not , the tensioner should be the top center pulley and should have a 1/2 square hole in it that you put the tool in to release the tensioner How do I loosen and remove the accessory drive belt on a '93 Buick Park Avenue (3.8L)?

I would tend to agree to take it to a mechanic. The rear pan isn't a big deal but using the right oil and or additive is, and it has to be absolutely clean. If it's leaking at the axles or pinion be sure to take it to a mechanic. You need the right tools to install the new seals. How much can I expect it to cost me to repair the rear differential? or the leak on the 94 Buick roadmaster?
shouldnt be too much a leaky differential isnt hard to fix unless you have to remove suspension parts to get to the bolts and get the cover off you should look up how to do it and do it yourself and/or with a friend that has some mechanical experience you wil save money and gain knowledge about your car :)

Anyone know where I can get a used Steering column for a 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited, parts and Labor Included?

I don't want to spend over $275.00 for it and has to be in Great Shape.Anyone know where I can get a used Steering column for a 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited, parts and Labor Included?http://www.junkyarddog.com http://www.car-parts.com will deliver to your local junk yard listed on the websites. My local junk yard installs the used parts as well.Anyone know where I can get a used Steering column for a 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited, parts and Labor Included?Fortunately the steering column found in this vehicle is the same column found in many GM vehicles from 1988 - 1994. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a complete unit in good condition.

The best way to track down a suitably priced unit in your area is:

    www.car-part.com

This is a free service that searches for a specific part in millions of salvage yards across the country. Each part returned will detail condition, location, and price. Even if the part is located in CA you can negotiate shipping with the yard in question. You should be able to find one for much less than your $275 budget.

The labor is going to be a different story. Finding a local shop that's going to supply a used column will be nearly impossible to start. If you do they'll charge you an arm and a leg for the part and the other arm and leg for labor. The job in question is not that difficult. A day in your driveway with a basic set of tools (and maybe a steering wheel puller you can rent) will get the job done.

I'd recommend finding the part near you used, purchasing the $12 Haynes Manual (will give you step by step instructions) and doing it yourself. If you're opposed doing it yourself then buy the column and take it to a local shop for installation to save big.

Hope this helps! Good luck.Anyone know where I can get a used Steering column for a 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited, parts and Labor Included?Ya might want to save a couple of more dollars and check around your local salvage yards for a nice unit, then purchase it, then find a tech who will do it for a great price....show him what you have and let him/her give you an estimate...good luck.....Anyone know where I can get a used Steering column for a 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited, parts and Labor Included?

They fuel line will have some give to it so it bends a little to get it clear of the carb.

  • Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to put

All I see is HOT and COLD . I don't see any lines that say stop here. OR LOW OR HIGH. It's a 99 Buick Century with a Low Coolant light on.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to putWith the engine cool Remove the Radiator cap, Add a 50-50 mix of clean water %26amp; anti-freeze till the Radiator is full to the top. With the cap still off start the engine, as it warms the Thermostat will start to open and the coolant will go down, Moving through the engine. Keep adding the mix till the Radiator is full, reinstall the cap. Go to the overflow tank for the radiator, add water or coolant to the first line "Full Cold" , Finished.

When you check the coolant level do it via the Overflow Tank. A Good Shop will show you this if you ask.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to put
The hot line is where you fill it to when the engine is hot and the cold line is where you fill it to when it's cold. Don't worry about putting in a little too much.

If the radiator is really low, you need to take the cap off when the engine is cold and fill it there first.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to putPour coolant into the reservoir until it reaches the Cold line. If the Low Coolant light comes on again in a week or so, you should get your system checked for leaks.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to put
it's usually a plastic tank with a hose attached to the top filling hole of the radiator. FIRST SHAKE THE ONE GALLON JUG OF ANTI_FREEZE BECAUSE THERE ARE CHEMICALS IN THERE THAT CAN SETTLE TO THE BOTTOM%26gt; SOME OF THOSE CHEMICALS ARE CORROSIVE%26lt; THEY HELP KEEP YOUR RADIATOR CLEAN. second off you mix ant-freeze wiith water a 50/50 mix is usual. take the lid off the plastic tank NOT THE RADIATOR fill the tank to the cold line if the engine is cold. then continually check it once a week for a few weeks to make sure it stays in that area. try not to fill the radiator.

buy one gallon, get an empty 1/2 gallon juice bottle. fill the juice bottle up. once it's full that will leave you with 1/2 gallon antifreeze in the 1 gallon jug fill the jug with water and you now have a 50/50 mix. if worse comes to worse just fill that plastic tank till it's about 1 inch from the top.

good luck.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to putWait till the engine is cold then fill to mark that shows cold. Use the same type anti freeze . match the colors most anti freeze are red yellow or green. You don't see much yellow except in heavy equipment. If not sure go down to to local parts house and the will show you how to do it and sell you the right anti freeze. You may have to top off the radiator ,only fill it to the bottom of the filler neck If you can touch it with your finger it more than likely OK.Okay I need help putting engine coolant in my 99 buick I read the book and I don't see how much coolant to put
Have someone help you to remove and replace the radiator cap. Coolant should be to the top when cold. Add if needed and wait a while for the passages to fill and balance. Fill the recovery tank to "Cold" level. Run the car for a while or take a short trip. Wait until the defroster air is warm. Then let the engine cool for an hour or so and recheck everything. You could have an air pocket somewhere.

I have a 98 buick lesabre limited and I changed the belt without jacking the motor or removing the motor mount. There is a slot about a 1/4" wide the belt slips through so you don't have to remove anything. After studying it for a little bit it is very easy!

The engine support bracket does not need to be removed. Only remove the lower bolt and spacer. (18 mm) regular socket will do the trick. One the bolt is removed, removed the spacer by wiggling it around. Place the belt on and then replace spacer and bolt.

Can someone help me diagnose problem with 1986 Buick Century?

Here is the problem with the car. The 1986 Buick century 4 door sedan is in pretty good shape. Recently, when I stopped at a stop light, there would be like a rough idle and RPM surge then it would "gag" like for air and then conk out. This was dangerous, because then there were no brakes or power steering. It was checked for vaccum leaks. Some theories are bad fuel pump/filter, the heat wave everyone is having, clogged fuel line, etc. The car is fuel injection. I cannot risk driving the car and may have to have it towed. All I am trying to find out if somebody might have a hunch what to look for and how to fix the problem. Thanks for your time and don't be afraid to offer your opinions, all are welcome. Can someone help me diagnose problem with 1986 Buick Century?a rough idle is an indication the computer didn't like something then it tried to fix it by reving the engine i would have the mass air flow sensor and the o2 sensors checked before doing anything else. did your check engine light come on or do you have any light on your dash flashing. if its just an engine light have a shop read it for free most in my area will do that. if there is a light flashing count the flashes till there is a pause the light flashes are usually 3 digit # and will flash all codes till it repeats it twice so watch closelyCan someone help me diagnose problem with 1986 Buick Century?
    Hi

    I have a 1989 Buick Century with a 3.3litre engine.

I was wondering if you could tell us if you found a solution to the problem.

Can someone help me diagnose problem with 1986 Buick Century?Unfortunatly with problems like this it is very difficult to diagnose. What I can tell you is:

Take your care in to an ASE certified master tech. Have them connect a labscope to your sensors. Have them run a smoke machine on your intake system. A labscope will definatly do the trick. They will also have to connect a scanner to it. This will check to see if there are any pending codes that may not have triggered the check engine light yet.

They can also compare parameters for example checking RPM to Mass air flow or RPM against fuel and make sure the values are correct.

If you want send me your zip code and I can find you a good tech in our database. I work for AESwave and we mfg labscope accessories and scan tools. IM me if you wish.

94 Buick Roadmaster estate wagon I notice little quarter size to half dollar size oil drips from the rear end?

(Axle) of the car . I had the rear axle flushed about a year ago. Also when I go in reverse while turning the wheel ( Backing out of parking spot) I can hear a grinding noise coming from the rear end of the car. It makes that noise maybe 50% of the time when I go in reverse.

Does anyone know what the most common problem may be?94 Buick Roadmaster estate wagon I notice little quarter size to half dollar size oil drips from the rear end?Your rear differential is leaking. You should have that checked by a mechanic because that grinding sound is your gears wearing out.94 Buick Roadmaster estate wagon I notice little quarter size to half dollar size oil drips from the rear end? You're leaking differential fluid, get it fixed asap.

Edit: Fix the leak - To replace the gasket, and refill the gear oil plus labor, it could cost about $200 - $300.

If your differential gears are shot, it could cost up to about $1,800 parts and labor.

Hopefully you'll just need the gasket and oil.94 Buick Roadmaster estate wagon I notice little quarter size to half dollar size oil drips from the rear end?I am fairly certain that the wagons were all limited slips. Its possible that who ever did the flush did not put the correct oil in. The limited slip requires a special oil or an additive. They should not make a noise going straight but could make quite a bit of noise turning so.

They work on the same principle so buying the cheap ones to the expensive ones will not affect performance, only the aesthetics. Using this method, you would not need to install anything. read more on FM modulators if you are interested. It's not wireless so there's no interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio. No searching for a clean channel.

It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch.

This is the answer. Totally versatile.

conejote_99 - has indicated the best solution. the sound is that of a cd (limited only by the ipod itself), and is a very clean install. I tried a fm modulator once........once.......it now sits in a drawer, i'd rather listen to the radio than deal with that thing, and it was a good one. plus as conejote_99 mentioned his solution alows for controlling it right thru the radio controls....which is better than stumbling oround for the ipod, just put it in the glove box and forget about it.

Why won't my '84 diesel buick start withought starting fluid?

I have a 19843 Buick lesabre 5.7l diesel. i have to use starting fluid to get it start after it has sat for a few hours but if i start it after its been running after just a little while it starts just fine? Why won't my '84 diesel buick start withought starting fluid?Could be the glow plugs aren't working but more likely it is due to low compression due to too much wear on the cylinder walls and piston rings. If it starts ok when it is still warm but fails after the engine cools down it is because metal expands and contracts with temp therefore the rings seal when warm but not enough when cold. It starts on starting fluid because it is so much more volitile than diesel fuel. Why won't my '84 diesel buick start withought starting fluid? You have to turn the key to the "run" position for about a minute, without starting the car. this allows the glow plugs to warm up then the vehicle will start. - and how did you get a car from the future?

You can try taking it apart and spraying some engine degreaser in there. Or you can always take a long spike or long heavy duty screw driver and hammering out all the ceramic material inside the catalytic converter this should give you some additional horsepower by freeing up the back pressure there. I've done it on my cars in the past just like running a straight pipe and all my cars still passed the emissions test too!How can I clean out the catalytic converter in a 1995 Buick Century?you cant clean it and have it work like before, but you van empty it out and you will get better response but if they do emision test where you live then its no good to empty it out since you wont ppass the test. but i live in florida and we eliminate the cat converters for better performance.
the only thing you can do is cut it out and break it all apart then get get some clamps and clamp it back on if you dont clean it out then all the pieces will go through the muffler and can damage that which can cause that to be replaced to because it is not cheap for a shop to put a new one in and they wont straight pipe it because it is illegalHow can I clean out the catalytic converter in a 1995 Buick Century? There is nothing that you can do to clean out a catalytic converter. How do you adjust the neutral safety switch on a 1993 buick skylark?

I replaced tranny and need to adjust this switch. right now trany will only start in park, won't start in netural and I can shift out of park with out the key in the ignition. How do you adjust the neutral safety switch on a 1993 buick skylark? You may not need to adjust the switch but the transmission linkage itself. Put the car in neutral with the wheels blocked so it won't roll, on the transmission you will see the switch with the selector shaft going through it and the cable attached to the lever. The nut where the cable attaches is the adjustment, loosen it and allow the linkage to relax. Put the trans shifter against the neutral stop and tighten the nut carefully so you don't move the transmission lever. Now check the adjustment by moving the shift lever in the car to make sure you aren't off by one detent position, if you are go back and do it again. Now start the car with your foot on the brake and see if you got it. If you have it right you will now be able to take it out of park without the key. Next, with the car shut off and in neutral again you can set the neutral safety switch using a small drill bit, when the trans is in neutral the little hole should allow you to insert the drill bit. You just loosen the bolts and turn the switch to adjust it so the bit goes in easily with no force then snug the bolts down and check it out.How do you adjust the neutral safety switch on a 1993 buick skylark?you don't. that is a non adjustable part moron. why do you think it is loose it needs to be replaced

  • How do you remove the dashboard speaker cover on a 1996 buick le sabre?

how do u do it? need to install new speakers. How do you remove the dashboard speaker cover on a 1996 buick le sabre?i believe they snap out.How do you remove the dashboard speaker cover on a 1996 buick le sabre?
Due to the wide range of models and options, the instrument panel and pad removal procedure cannot cover every possible location for screw or clip locations. The car's instrument panel enables removal of control switches, instruments, gauges, and lights from the driver's side of the instrument panel. Trim panels that must be removed are held in place by bolts, screws and clips. These locations vary from model to model. After the removal of all the fasteners that you are aware of, if the cluster is still firmly attached, you probably missed a hidden fastener. If this happens, gently and carefully pry the area, looking for the location that doesn't flex. The location that does flex is where you'll find the fastener(s) you missed. Take great care with the plastic trim panels. Plastic trim panels are usually very hard plastic and extremely easy to crack. The following steps can be used to guide you through the removal and installation of the instrument cluster, but you will need to alter steps to your specific needs.

    WARNING

Servicing the instrument area requires disconnecting the negative battery cable. The electronics involved with an analog or digital dashboard are both sensitive and expensive. Use great care with these components. If equipped with an air bag, you MUST follow all DISARMING procedures, as described in.

    REMOVAL %26amp; INSTALLATION

    1987-91 Vehicles

    See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with SIR, disable the SIR system as outlined in of this repair guide.

    CAUTION

Some models covered by this information may be equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SIR components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SIR, as described in.

2.Remove the steering column filler panel.

Fig. Fig. 1: Exploded view of typical steering column filler and reinforcement panels

For more information on instrument cluster removal, please refer toin this repair guide.

3.Remove the instrument panel top cover-to-instrument panel screws.

4.If equipped with a twilight sentinel, pop up the photocell retainer and turn the photocell counterclockwise in the retainer and pull it down-and-out.

5.Slide the instrument panel top cover out far enough to disconnect the aspirator hose and the electrical connector, if equipped.

6.Remove the instrument panel top cover/pad from the instrument panel. If equipped with quartz electronic speedometer clusters, remove the steering column trim cover, so the shift indicator can be removed.

Fig. Fig. 2: Exploded view of an instrument panel pad/cover - 1991 Bonneville shown, others similar

    7.Remove all necessary sound insulators.

Fig. Fig. 3: Remove all sound insulators interfering with instrument panel removal

8.Remove the instrument cluster-to-instrument panel carrier screws. Pull the cluster housing assembly straight out; this will separate the electrical connectors from the cluster.

Fig. Fig. 4: Exploded view of a typical instrument cluster mounting

It may be helpful to tilt the wheel all the way down and pull the gear select lever to low, when removing the cluster.

9.Disconnect the non-volatile memory chip, if equipped.

10.Remove the speedometer retaining screws and disconnect the speedometer cable or the electrical connection, if equipped.

    11.Remove the speedometer assembly.

12.Remove the radio and heater and A/C control assembly, as outlined in of this repair guide.

13.Remove the glove compartment door and/or glove compartment, as necessary.

15.Unfasten the screws attaching the ALDL connector to the instrument panel (located near the dimmer module).

16.Detach the cigar lighter wires, then remove the ashtray. If necessary, remove the ashtray slide bracket.

17.If necessary, remove the fuse block from the instrument panel by pushing up on the lower tab to release, then push on the panel behind the instrument panel.

The retaining screws may be different sizes, so be sure to note their locations during removal.

18.Unfasten the instrument panel support screws and mounting screws, noting their locations for installation.

19.Tag and detach the instrument panel electrical connectors. It may be necessary to use a small flat-bladed tool to push the locking tang(s) from the holes in the instrument panel, then slide the connector downward.

20.Unfasten any necessary steering column support or instrument panel bracket bolts.

21.Disconnect the side defogger hoses from the instrument panel outlet connections.

The yellow check engine light will come on, but if the car drives much better, then tell your mechanic. This assumes your ignition tuneup is good including the spark plug wires.I have a '92 buick century that hesitates and sputters unless I give it full throttle.?
I hate to tell you this but your mechanic could be right, but before you go that route i was gonna say change your fuel filter but i see you have already done that, OK how about switching gas are you running regular unleaded then try some premium gas I know it's a little expensive then regular if you want try mixing it.

It won't hurt the catalytic converter or your intake manifold but if you are a little Leary about mixing fuels then get a bottle of complete fuel system cleaner (concentrated)

To add it to your tank make sure that the tank is nearly empty, add the system cleaner in the tank and add fuel say about 20 gallons of gas. Since it's concentrated you don't need to add any more, just more gas when nearly empty.

Now if your car is still sputtering and chocking and gasping for life then it's your in-tank fuel pump.

Oh another product you can try is called restore it comes in a silver can there are 3 different size cans for 3 different style engines 1)a short can is for 4 cylinders 2) a medium can is for 6 cylinders and 3) large can is for 8 cylinders if your car is a 6 cylinder then get the med. can or a 4 or 8 to find out how many cylinders you have count the spark plug wires 4 wires 4 cylinders 6 wires you get the idea.
